About Rob

Rob is the Member for Southport and the Assistant Minister for Planning Reform. He currently lives on the Gold Coast with his wife Melinda and their four sons. Rob has a passion for child protection and prior to being elected to Parliament was the national president of Bravehearts.

On leaving High School and joining Woolworths Big W, he became one of the company’s youngest senior managers at age 26, working in 27 different stores from the Gold Coast to Adelaide.

As well as a stellar career in media and communications, Rob has owned and operated coffee shops, a squash & fitness centre, a limousine business, underground tourist mine and chain of rural based pizza stores.

In 2004 Rob was elected to the Gold Coast City Council where he served one term and served as the Chairman of the City’s Finance and Internal Services Committee.

Rob and Melinda both have a strong belief in giving back to the community. Rob was the founding Chair of the Gold Coast Community Fund, the Chair of the Gold Coast NRL Titans Community Foundation, and is a mentor to many community leaders.

Between his commitments to Southport and his portfolio responsibilities he takes this time with his family, enjoying the benefits that Southport and the Gold Coast offer.

“When a dream takes hold of you, you can either run with it or you can spend your life wondering what could have been. I would rather live a life of risk, than a life of sentimentality. I will be unreasonable for reasonable is akin to apathy.”  Lou Engle
